March 29, 2009 Vestry Meeting (April Meeting)

St. Martin’s in the Desert (with corrections)

 

Meeting called to order at 12:27 P.M. by Sr. Warden Loyd Platson

Pre Meeting Activity:   None

 

Opening Prayer:   Rev. Julie Platson – Ecclesiastes 3:1-22

 

Additions to Agenda:   Campership – Camp Spirit

                                     Cross for top of new building

 

Review and approval of minutes from vestry meeting of March 1, 2009:

     Three corrections / one addition (corrected copy with vestry meeting notes for March)

     Motion to approve by Carol Slaughter

     Second by Jim Sims

     Motion was carried

 

Treasurer’s report:   Carol Slaughter – None; Bob Green gave “Expense by Vendor                                       

                                 Detail” report for March 2009 (document with vestry meeting notes

                                 For April)

 

Committee reports:   Loyd Platson – Response to audit committee of 2008

                                                            (document included with April notes)

                                  Julie Platson – Camperships were not to come from outreach, this

                                                           will be changed to “will be made available” and

                                                           was agreed to by all

 

New Business:

 

1)      Loyd Platson – Grants from NCC for teen night $1000.00. St. Martin’s to bill

                                     NCC $200.00 per night plus extra for family night at the pool

                                     The money has to be spent by the end of June. Additional grant

                                     has been written to support teen night after the end of June

                                     through the end of the year.

                                     Also, $1200.00 for Stand for Children 2009

 

Old Business:

 

1)      Julie Platson – Stand for Children will be on Saturday May 16 at 11:30. Julie will

                                    ask the congregation to donate some of the food items (chips,

                                    soda, water) to help off-set the cost. Bob Green suggested a paid

                                    advertisement to get information out and get more people

                                    involved.

 

2)      Church work day: Lisa Whitney will look into getting more rock to go under the

                                         two trees in front of the parish hall. She asked for approval to

                                         purchase rock and have it delivered before the work day on

                                         April 4. Carol Slaughter made a motion to order six tons of

                                         rock and store any unused rock. Second by Patty Dannenberger.

                                         Motion was carried. (Color to be determined – Rock on sale)

 

     3)   Church Inventory:   Julie Platson – List has been completed by Julie, Lisa and

                                           Loyd. Altar Guild items were done by Carol Slaughter and

                                           Fay Wagus. List will be with vestry notes.

 

     4)   Office Furniture:   Loyd Platson – Coalition is part of United Way and Loyd got

                                         additional furniture from their giveaway. We got furniture, a

                                         printer, binders, irrigation items, etc. Vestry needs to write a

                                         thank you letter to NCC for their support. Loyd will write the

                                         letter. Bob Green suggested a card or letter to Dotty Webb in

                                         appreciation for her volunteer work in the office.

5)      Loyd Platson – We have collected six pounds of pull tabs so far.

6)      Julie and Loyd gave an update on Saturday (3/28/09) workshop in Las Vegas with

                    Bishop Dan. Workshop was informative and enlightening.

7)      Vestry mini retreat at Loyd and Julie’s house tonight for members from 3:30-5:30.

                         Spouses to join after for a bar-b-que and bon fire.

 

Additions:

 

1)      Julie Platson asked for St. Martin’s to make a donation to Camp Spirit. Lisa

                    Whitney made a motion to provide one campership @ $380.00 with funds

                    from outreach. Second by Carol Slaughter. Motion was carried.

2)      Bill Edwards has offered to make a cross out of wood with lighting for night time

                    for top of new building. Bob Green questioned the structural integrity of

                    the building to support this. A discussion was held and Loyd will tell Bill

                    to hold off making cross until issue can be resolved.

 

Good of the Church:   Loyd Platson – Single Event contract needs to be signed by Carol

                                    Slaughter for NCC. Substance Abuse Task Force meetings are

                                   every other month. $100.00 will be re-imbursed. New contract has

                                   to be signed for each event. Jim Simms made a motion to accept.

                                 Second by Maggie Uthoff. Motion was carried. Also, need to enter

                                 into new contract with NCC that St. Martin’s will provide teen night

                                 once a month and will be reimbursed $200.00 per event. Contract to

                                 be signed by Carol Slaughter. Patty Dannenberger made a motion to

                                 accept. Second by Carol Slaughter. Motion was carried.

 

Next meeting will be on May 3, 2009 after social hour.
